SOLID: In particles of solid they are very close together, they also vibrate and twist but they dont move apart, Ice is an example of a solid .
LIQUID: In liqiuds the particles are still really close together but they are more seperated than solid particles.Liqiud particles move around and can mix with other particles therefor liquids can change shape to match a container.Since there is still little space between liquid particles the cant be compressed.
GASSES:
iN gasses the particles are much further away then other particles therfor ,they collide around to the walls of a container and can be mixed with other particles.Gas can be compressed but because the particles are futher away from it it goes into a smaller volume when it is compressed.
What is sublimation?
Answer:Sublimitation is the direct change from a solid to a gas for example dry -ice goed directly into a gas without melting and going into a solid .
Q2) Supposing you increase the pressure of the air above the boiling liquid. What would happen to the boiling point of the water
Answer:I think that the level of the water would decrease and get lower.
Question 4) Does water contract or expand on changing from a liquid to a solid?
Answer: I believe that water expands when changing into the a solid. eg. Water and ice. But when it changes back into a liquid, it contracts.
Why do gasses exert pressure on the walls of their container? The gas particles hit the container walls What happens to particles when they are heated up ? They stay the same size When particles are cooled down they: Vibrate less and move closer together
Liquids and gasses are able to flow Solid liquids and gasses expand when they are heated up ,What happens to them when they cool down ? They contract and move closer together What happens to the pressure in a metal spray can when it is heated up ? It increases and blows the Can up
COLLOIDS Gel- Gel is a type of colloid . Their liquid particles are held between solid particles , jelly is a well known gel colloid .In jelly the gelitain holds the liquid (flavoring) in placeThese gels particles can easily be seperated/ melted by being heated.
